Product DetailsManicurist Mamie Murphy plans to marry a rich man. When her name is announced as the winner of a sweepstakes ticket that could be worth $150,000.00 if champion racehorse Lady Luck wins an upcoming race, she finds herself suddenly courted by several men. To Mamie's surprise, an older woman, who happens to have the same name as her, shows up with the real winning ticket. When Lady Luck wins her race, the two women pose as aunt and niece and move into a luxury apartment, complete with servants. Life is grand until they are mysteriously drugged, and Mamie awakens to find a smoking gun in her hand and one of her gentlemen suitors dead on the floor. Duncan Renaldo, who portrays nightclub owner Tony Morelli in the film, went on to appear in many movies until he was cast in the role for which he is best remembered, The Cisco Kid. Iris Adrian, who portrays Rita in the film, specialized in playing glamorous gold-diggers and gangster's "molls" in the 1930s. Known for her sense of humor, she wryly commented in an interview late in her life that the only thing she did not like about aging was that she could no longer attract gangsters. Director Charles Lamont, who is credited with starting Shirley Temple's career, went on to direct many of Abbott and Costello's feature films including Hit the Ice and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He also helmed several entries in Universal Studios highly successful Ma and Pa Kettle series.
