Product Details

The master of suspense weaves a devious tale of deception, double-cross, and romance in this rarely-seen gothic gem. His final British film before emigrating to the U.S. to direct Rebecca (also based on a Daphne du Maurier novel), Jamaica Inn stars Maureen O'Hara (The Quiet Man) as a headstrong Irish girl who visits her aunt on the British coast and discovers that the tavern she inhabits is the headquarters for a band of bloodthirsty brigands. Charles Laughton portrays a flamboyant squire who turns a blind eye to the throat-slashing shipwreckers, but who, upon the young woman's insistence, must confront the evil that dwells in Jamaica Inn. This sets in motion a delectable series of betrayals, exposes an undercover government agent, reveals secret double lives, and brings about a number of gruesome murders, all flavored by the diabolical wit and masterful direction of the cinema's greatest stylist. Previously available only in grainy, bootlegged prints, this Kino on Video edition has been digitally mastered from a 35mm nitrate print.
